Unveilling The Secret Body Langauge of Smart Minds

We often think smarts are all about a good memory or knowing big words. But did you know that the way a person moves can also show their intelligence?

There are certain body language signs that experts say show high intelligence.

1) They use open body language

Intelligent people are often comfortable in their skin and aren’t afraid to show it. They are interested in learning from others, which is why they keep their body language open, signaling that they are receptive to new ideas and perspectives.

2) They mirror others’ actions

Mirroring is when a person unconsciously imitates the gestures, speech pattern, or attitude of another. It’s a way of showing empathy and understanding. You see, smart people are often good at picking up on social cues and mirroring is one way to build rapport and establish connection.

3) They show genuine smiles

Intelligent people often have this knack of giving real, genuine smiles. And no, I’m not talking about those polite, forced smiles we all put on at awkward social events. I’m referring to real, eye-crinkling, full-faced smiles that radiate warmth and positivity.

I remember meeting a woman at a conference once who had the most infectious smile. It wasn’t just her mouth that was smiling; her eyes were full of joy too. She had this magnetic energy about her that drew people in. Later, I found out she was a renowned tech specialist with multiple degrees from MIT.

So, if you come across someone with a genuine smile that reaches their eyes, there’s a good chance they might be more intelligent than your average Jane.

4) They use minimal yet meaningful hand gestures

Here’s a fun fact that might surprise you: Highly intelligent people tend to use fewer hand gestures when they speak. The hand gestures they do use amplify their communication. Studies have shown, good hand movements enhance memory and stimulate the brain.

5) They touch their face when thinking

Here’s an intriguing tidbit for you: Although face touching is often considered a sign of nervousness, it can also indicate deep thinking and high cognitive abilities. This is because our facial skin is densely populated with nerve endings and stimulating them can help increase mental focus.

6) They maintain good posture

Something as simple as the way a person stands or sits can tell you a lot about them, and this includes their intelligence.

Highly intelligent people often maintain good posture. It’s not just because they want to avoid back pain or look confident (although those are great reasons too!). Good posture is a sign of self-awareness and discipline – two traits often found in smart individuals.

7) They give you their full attention

Remember when you were a kid and your teacher would say, “Eyes on me”? Well, it turns out they were onto something. People with high intelligence often have the ability to give their full attention to the person they’re interacting with. They make you feel like you’re the only person in the room.

8) They’re comfortable with silence

Yep, you heard it right. They don’t feel the need to fill every moment with words or nervous laughter. They understand that silence isn’t something to be feared, but rather, it can be a powerful tool for reflection and understanding.

They’re okay with letting a conversation breathe, taking a moment to think before responding, or just sitting in companionable silence. It shows a level of thoughtfulness and self-assurance that speaks volumes about their intelligence.

9) They use their space wisely – but not always how you might expect.

According to a 2017 study from the University of Minnesota, students who work in messy rooms generate the same number of ideas as students who work in clean rooms. However, the ideas from the messy rooms are rated as more interesting and creative. Some say that geniuses are messy because they tend to see the big picture instead of getting bogged down in details. They may also not see the point in cleaning up because they know exactly where everything is.
Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs were all known to have messy workspaces.

I’ve also noticed many highly intelligent people tend to use their physical space wisely. Whether it’s a coworker’s organized desk or a friend’s well-curated living room, the way they inhabit and utilize their space often reflects their sharp mind.

10) They maintain eye contact

In our digital age, where it’s easy to hide behind screens, maintaining direct eye contact has become a rare, almost old-fashioned skill. But here’s the raw truth: intelligent people are usually good at it. They’re not afraid to look you in the eyes because they’re confident in their thoughts and ideas. They know the value of genuine human connection and they’re not afraid to establish it. Looking someone in the eyes shows respect, understanding and engagement – all signs of a sharp mind.

How easy would it be for you to add a few of these behaviors to your personal presentation. Your body will start to vibrate with an incredible luminosity no matter what is happening around you, and there can be no greater body language than that. In a world saturated
with the cold, hard and dim of spirit, you’ll shine.
